On-the-Rocks Glass
On-the-Rocks Glass
by Shimadzu Satsuma Kiriko
Handcrafted in Kagoshima, Japan, this refined Satsuma Kiriko on-the-rocks glass embodies the mastery and innovation of traditional Japanese cut glass.
The spiderweb motif on the side is elevated through a specialized raised-cutting technique, forming a frame-like structure that surrounds the pattern. This advanced method is also seen in the restored masterpiece Kikkamon Sandan-ju, demonstrating the exceptional skill required to achieve such precision.
The foot is deliberately shaped with a subtle waist, allowing the signature bokashi (gradient shading) to flow gracefully into the base. Every cut reflects the artisan’s meticulous attention to balance, depth, and light.
Combining architectural structure with delicate detailing, this glass offers a powerful yet elegant presence suited for both contemporary and traditional settings.
Each piece is individually hand-cut, ensuring that no two are exactly alike.
