Ichimonji Serving Tray – Tamenuri Lacquer
Ichimonji Serving Tray – Tamenuri Lacquer
by Yamada Heiando
This elegant Ichimonji tray features a sleek rectangular form defined by smooth, sharp lines.
The minimalist silhouette and refined proportions create a modern impression while maintaining the quiet elegance characteristic of traditional Japanese lacquerware.
The tray is finished using the Tamenuri lacquer technique, in which vermilion lacquer is applied beneath layers of translucent black lacquer. Over time, the upper lacquer gradually becomes more transparent, revealing deeper tones and a richer expression as the piece ages.
Its elongated form makes it particularly suitable for presenting seasonal dishes, sushi, desserts, or small appetizers. Small bowls and plates can also be arranged on the tray to create a refined presentation.
Crafted by Yamada Heiando, a historic lacquerware maker honored as a supplier to the Imperial Household Agency of Japan, this tray reflects generations of Japanese lacquer craftsmanship.
A refined lacquer serving tray that blends traditional technique with contemporary table presentation.
